PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS (KLCC)

The Petronas Twin Towers (also known as KLCC) are twin tower and skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is the tallest twin buildings in the world from 1998 until 2004 before Taipei 101 surpassed it when completely built in 2004.

HISTORY

Petronas Twin Towers which completed in 1998 were designed by César Pelli and Djay Cerico (Argentina Architecture) and take 7 years to completely build.

Both towers were built by different contractors. Japanese consortium led by the Hazama Corporation built Tower 1 while Tower 2 built by Samsung C&T and Kukdong Engineering & Construction (South Korean contractors). For the sky bridge contract, it was completed by Kukdong Engineering & Construction. Tower 2 became the first to reach the world's tallest building at the time since it was completed earlier than the Tower 1.

THE SKY BRIDGE

The sky bridge between the two towers on 41st and 42nd floors (the highest two-story bridge in the world) was not attached to the main structure, but it was designed to slide in and out of the towers to prevent it from breaking during high winds and as a safety device.

Physical properties of the sky bridge:

Height: 170 m (558 ft) above the ground
Long:  58 m (190 ft)
Weight: 750 tons

The sky bridge is open to all visitors and the tickets are free on a first-come, first-served basis, but limited to only 1700 people per day. Visitors are only allowed on the 41st floor due to the 42nd floor can only be used by the tenants of the building.
